The Cape Guide
Hey there, we're Kathleen and Richard
I (Kathleen) grew up in Sandwich, MA. Like many kids who grow up in a beautiful place, I didn't fully appreciate it until I left. After college, I returned to teach art at Sandwich Middle High School for a couple of years, but I had the travel bug and a need for something different. That led me to Dubai, where I spent the next 10 years teaching, exploring, and eventually meeting Richard, a British creative, designer, architect, and all-around builder of things (he built this website!).
Every summer, we'd come back to the Cape, craving the salty air, slow mornings, and that sense of “home” you can't quite explain. But we always noticed how hard it was to find a single place where everything was pulled together: events, local gems, small businesses, family-friendly fun. It was all scattered across different websites and social pages.
So we started dreaming: what if we could create something that helps people really experience the Cape, whether they're here for a week, a season, or a lifetime? And that's how The Cape Guide was born.
But truthfully? This isn't just a passion project. It's part of our journey to build a life we love, right here on the Cape. Like so many others, we've faced moments of uncertainty, challenges, and that messy, beautiful process of figuring it all out. We're not coming at this from a place of having it all together. We're building this alongside you.
We believe in real community. In celebrating the local, supporting each other, and creating something meaningful. Whether you're planning your next Cape adventure or trying to navigate life with kids, bills, and questions about what's next, you're welcome here.
Come for the recs, stay for the community.
