Yarmouth is known for its wide variety of accommodation, strong Route 6A antique corridor, and the contrast between quieter Yarmouth Port on the bay side and busier South Yarmouth on the sound. Bass River and the Bass Hole boardwalk at Gray's Beach are among the town's most scenic spots.
Walk the boardwalk at Gray's Beach at low tide for sweeping tidal flat views, kayak or canoe on Bass River, and explore the antique shops along historic Route 6A in Yarmouth Port. Captain Bangs Hallett House is a beautifully preserved sea captain's home. Seaside Festival in autumn is a favourite local event.
Yarmouth has reliable casual dining and some standout spots. Inaho Japanese Restaurant in Yarmouth Port is consistently regarded as one of the Cape's best Japanese restaurants. Jack's Outback offers creative American cooking in Yarmouth Port. The Optimist Café and Old Yarmouth Inn are comfortable local staples.
Yarmouth is very family-friendly, especially on the sound side. Parker's River Beach and Smugglers Beach are popular with families. Route 28 in South Yarmouth has mini-golf, ice cream, and amusement-style attractions. Gray's Beach and the Bass Hole boardwalk are gentle enough for young children and great for sandbar exploring.
July and August bring the biggest crowds to the south side beaches. Route 6A in Yarmouth Port is especially lovely in late spring and autumn, quieter, but the antique shops, historic homes, and gardens are at their best. Migratory birds make Gray's Beach excellent for birdwatching in spring and autumn.
